EDITORS COMMENT - 25-03-09
Whilst one river turned green for a day, amongst debate as to whether infact it was a very green thing to do. Assurances that the dye used in the Chicago River  is not harmful to fish, fowl or man did not calm environmentalists. There hangs a defiant secrecy as to what it is that turned the Chicago river Green. Green has become the buzz word of the 21st century. Huge expanses of inland waterways  are now  polluted beyond reasonable blatancy.

We understand better now then ever before that our world is a fragile eco chain. The Life cycle, The Food Cycle and the Water Cycle are all inter-related and impacted on by man with his Trade Cycle and his Economic Cycle.
The back peddling of the last two may have a cooling effect on our natures fundamentals. The argument to channel transport and leisure to the waterways is now more powerful then ever.

Perhaps we can give all the Cycles a good ride by creating jobs in the needed upkeep of our waterways,  by efficient design of the craft of our waterways and by greater emphasis on the people of our waterways.

Reminds me of that great Elvis song, its Now or Never or else its going to be just by the willow as we cry on the ocean filled by a river turned green.

Until tomorrow then
